Fury Women Reserve Open Season With Win
Fury edge out Internationals in OCSL Women's Premier Play

The Ottawa Fury Women's Reserve team opened the 2009 season with a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Internationals at the University of Ottawa on Sunday. The Internationals would go ahead on a breakaway in the second half of a game in which the Fury controlled most of the play. The Fury were unable to convert their chances into goals until two late strikes from Josee Descoeurs (left) and Gillian Baggott won the three points for the Fury Women.

The squad will compete in the Pat O'Kane tournament this coming weekend.

Blake Named 2008 Women's Reserve MVP

The 2008 Ottawa Fury season came to a conclusion on Friday night at the Annual Awards Banquet. Canada's "Mr. Soccer," Dick Howard, was on hand as individual awards and team recognitions were handed out in what was a very successful season for the Fury.

Janelle Blake, currently attending Florida Atlantic University, was a consistent force in the Falcons back field, a team adopted by the Fury as their Women's Reserve squad for 2008. As a result of her determination and consistency throughout the season Janelle has been named the 2008 Women's Reserve Most Valuable Player. Congratulations Janelle!

17 year old Ottawa Fury goalkeeper Caroline Robert has signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer for NCAA Division 1 school Canisius College in the Fall of 2008. Caroline has accepted a place in the School of Arts and Sciences where she will study Criminal Justice.

Gina Pacheco wins scholarship to University of South Florida
The Ottawa Fury Soccer Club is proud to announce that 17-year old midfield player Gina Pacheco has accepted an offer to play varsity soccer in the US this fall. Gina has accepted an athletic scholarship to attend the University of South Florida in Tampa Bay where she will pursue studies in Physical Education-Exercise Science.  She will join the USF Bulls Women’s Soccer program in the BIG-EAST conference under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown.

Maine Black Bears lose to Stony Brook in America East Quarterfinals.
Two Fury SYL and W-League players have been honored as All-America East selections. Forward Laura Harper earned first team honors and defender Anjelica Hodgson (pictured) was chosen for the second team.  Along with former SYL player Jasmine Phillips, Harper and Hodgson both play for the University of Maine Black Bears.
2009 W-League Reserve Program

The Fury W-League Reserve Program addresses the transition from the Entry-level U17s to the Fury W-League team. It provides an opportunity for post-youth level players to train and compete, together with other serious, dedicated athletes.

The Reserve program builds on the Varsity programs which the Fury ran in the summer of 2008, when the club fielded a team in the OCSL Women's Premier League in conjunction with the Ottawa Falcons.

Winter Indoor Season: (November - April)

Training: One 90-minute session each Thursday evening (9:30 - 11:00 PM) at Louis Riel- for 17 weeks

Eligibility: Post U17, current university or college players; Ottawa-based W-League players

Coaching Staff: Jimmy Zito

Dates: Dec 4, 11, 18,  Jan 8, 15,  22, 29, Feb 5, 12, 19, 26,  Mar 5, 12, 26, Apr 2, 9, 16

Cost: $225 for 17weeks (does not include any training kit)

Choose "U23 Reserve" as the team. 

Outdoor Season: (May - August)

Training: Two evening 90-minute sessions each week

Competition:  Ottawa Carleton Soccer League Women's Premier Division); Pat O'Kane Tournament; Others by agreement

Eligibility: 2009 W-League players;  Past Fury Youth players; current university or college players; and others by invitation (tryouts will be held in May)

Coaching Staff: Jimmy Zito and Basil Phillips

W-League Reserve Program Overview

The W-League Reserve team is an integral component of the clubs new Senior Program, linking the W-League on its upper side with the Entry-Level U17s below

Objectives of the Program

  1. Participation in a high level development and competitive program with other committed and talented players under the tutelage of experienced coaches
  2. Provide an avenue of opportunity to those players who aspire to play at the W-League level
  3. Offer the highest quality program at affordable cost
  4. Prepare players for or to return players to their varsity programs in midseason form
    (not pre-season)
  5. Provide a sub-set of talented Fury youth players the chance to retain an association with the Fury throughout their varsity careers
