Fury Continue to Haunt Phantoms

[2009.06.15 - Ottawa, ON]  Brace from DeCamps leads Ottawa to 2-0 win over New Hampshire

The Ottawa Fury (6-0-1) continued their winning ways against the New Hampshire Phantoms (1-7-2) with a 2-0 victory thanks to a two-goal performance by Florian DeCamps.

Playing their third game in four days the Fury looked to gain three more points in their quest for the Northeast Division title. Ottawa came out attacking early and often in the opening ten minutes that Adrian Schippers graze a shot off the far post in the third minute and Janson Blake head a corner just high.

The game settled for a period of time with the Fury dominating possession, created few chances. Joel Theissen made a great effort on goal from 20 yards out just missing high and wide. Inspired by Theissen effort from long range, Florian DeCamps fired a rocket from 30 yards scoring his 3rd of the season into the top corner. Three minutes later Janson Blake crossed for a soaring DeCamps who headed home his second of the game and 4th of the season. Ottawa continue to look for more as both Bushiri and Bean were unlucky and the Fury lead 2-0 through 45 minutes.

The Phantoms gave the Fury a spook to start the second half with two great chance but Stefan Caulfield stood tall in his first start of the season turning aside Phantom attackers all night earning his first win and shutout in Fury colours.

Keishen Bean had the best two chances of the half but was denied both times. Will Beauge and Paul Kihara entered the game producing electrifying runs and dazzling moves, but the Fury were unable to find the score sheet in the second half and walked away with a 2-0 victory and 7 out of a possible 9 points in their last three games.

The Fury remain in second place with 19 points heading into their biggest match of the season on Saturday against the Long Island Rough Riders (9-1-0) in Long Island in a critical battle for tops in the division.

Saturday, June 27th v. Newark Ironbound Express at 7pm at the Algonquin College Soccer Complex.
